Caitlyn Smith, Sandpoint's Gold Award recipient

This month, we celebrated Caitlyn Smith, a Sandpoint Girl Scout, for receiving her Gold Award for her project on creating new camp trail signs and maps at Camp Stidwell. Caitlyn is actually the first Girl Scout in Bonner County to receive her Gold Award in over a decade. We are so proud of the work she put in to make the trails at Camp Stidwell more engaging and accessible!

About a year and a half ago, Caitlyn noticed that there were many unidentified and overgrown trails at Camp Stidwell that couldn’t be hiked and so she decided to focus her project on fixing it. She got to work. After meeting with the organization that owned the camp, Caitlyn devised a plan to create a nature walk called The Golden Rule Trail that would connect 3 different campgrounds within Camp Stidwell. She helped clear the trail and built and set up several different markers and maps at each trailhead. She not only included the names and information for each of the trails but also included information about the different wildlife you can see in the area. Caitlyn built all the maps and markers out of weatherproof material that will last for years and years to come.

Congratulations, Caitlyn, on a job brilliantly done!
